Attack Errors Plague Cardinals in Loss to Carthage

Seeing their College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) struggles continue, the North Central College women's volleyball team ran into a tough Carthage College team on Tuesday, dropping a 3-0 match inside Gregory Arena.

North Central (13-13, 0-6 CCIW) hit just .023 over the course of the three-set match, finishing with 29 kills to 26 attack errors, while the Lady Reds (16-11, 3-2 CCIW) tallied 41 kills to only eight errors.

The Cardinals hung with the Lady Reds over the course of the opening set, but the turning point came with Carthage holding a 18-17 lead.  After a Lady Reds timeout, Carthage rattled off four straight kills to quickly take a 22-17 lead and finished off the set 25-20 a few points later.

Sets two and three were all Carthage as the North Central offense hit -.056 and -.024 during the two sets, while the Lady Reds hit .357 and .371 to run away with the match by scores of 25-9 and 25-13, respectively.

Rachael Kisten and Stephanie Korbakes each finished with 10 kills to lead the Carthage attack, while Ellie LeCount dished out a team-leading 18 assists and Abigail McGowan added 17.  Defensively, Carthage tallied 10.5 total blocks, led by four total from Rachel Mickey.

Cara Howell led the Cardinals with nine kills, while Julie Laugel added eight and Ashley Powers finished with a team-high 12 assists.  Olivia Hanley led the Cardinal defense with 17 digs, while Laugel added nine and Val Hunt finished with eight.

North Central closed out the home portion of the schedule on Friday, Oct. 25, playing host to Wheaton College on Senior Night with the match slated for 7 p.m.
