Box Score

Oct. 29, 2016 – Despite overcoming a rash of injuries to qualify for the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament for the second time in program history, the North Central College women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, at Neis Field.

In a game where the goal for the Cardinals was to come out healthy and ready for conference play, Illinois Wesleyan came out of the gates strong, and scored the first goal of the match in the 3rd minute, when senior midfielder Alison Seger scored via a header. Junior midfielder Sarah Gaither almost responded for North Central a minute later, but her shot was saved.

The Titans scored again the 13th minute, with senior forward Skyler Tomko doing the damage this time. Despite being down 2-0, the Cardinals were thinking in the big picture and were happy to come out of the first half injury-free.

Tomko would score again for the Titanns, this time in the 69th minute to secure them a 3-0 lead, and the victory.

Regardless of tonight's result, the Cardinals are looking ahead to capitalize on the historic opportunity they have created for themselves in the CCIW tournament. Having dealt with several injuries to key players throughout the season, the Cardinals are fit and healthy into tournament play. The 2016 team has laid the foundation for what is to be years of success to come.

North Central open conference tournament play on Wednesday, when they travel to Wheaton College for a first round matchup at a time to be determined.
