BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Oct. 7, 2016) – Kicking off play at the Barker Chevrolet Classic hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University, the North Central College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at the hands of Lincoln Christian University on Friday evening at the Shirk Center.
The Cardinals (11-7) struggled out of the gate dropping the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-19, before rebounding to win the third set 25-22. The North Central attack struggled all evening against the Red Lions (11-5), suffering a 25-20 loss in set four to hand Lincoln Christian the 3-1 victory, hitting just .145 on the night.
Sarah Geosling was the lone Cardinal to finish in double digit kills with 11, hitting at a .562 clip.
Cara Howell added eight kills, while
Annmarie Franz finished with seven, committing zero attack errors to lead the team with a .636 hitting percentage.
Val Hunt dished out a team-leading 20 assists, while
Ashley Powers handed out 13. Defensively,
Olivia Hanley led the way with 18 digs, while
Julie Laugel added 14. Laugel also led the team with three block assists and three service aces.
North Central continues play tomorrow, taking on Fontbonne University at 10 a.m., followed by Plymouth State University at 12 p.m.
