ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Nov. 16, 2016)
– In a tightly contested match to begin College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) competition, the North Central College wrestling team found themselves on the wrong end of a 23-14 dual at Augustana College on Wednesday as the match came down to the final two weight classes.

With the match knotted 14-14 heading into the 197 pound weight class, Vincent Pizzo found himself in a 3-0 hole and battled back to pull to within a point but ultimately ran out of time, falling by a slim 3-2 margin at the hands of Ethan Benoit.  Augustana sealed the victory in the final weight class as Adarios Jones scored a pin at 285 pounds.

The two teams traded major decisions in each of the 125 and 133 pound weight classes, as Anthony Rink got the scoring started with a 17-9 major decision win over Trenton Jackson at 125.

Layten Binion fought out a tough 3-1 decision over Brendan Gould at 141 pounds, while Ben Williamson gave the Cardinals a 11-7 lead with a 14-1 major decision victory over Josh Bush at 157.

Two classes later at 174, Matt Marcotte hung on to defeat Nick Torres by a 7-6 score to give North Central a slight 14-10 lead, but a major decision win by Augustana's Bo Bauer at 184 and the final two victories at the remaining weight classes clinched the victory in favor of the Vikings.

North Central will take part in the Concordia University Wisconsin Open this weekend with matches slated to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19.
