CHICAGO, Ill. (Nov. 26, 2016) – In their lowest scoring affair in recent memory, the North Central College women's basketball team struggled to get anything going offensively all afternoon in the opener of the North Park University Tournament opener, suffering their first loss of the season 73-49 at the hands of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
The Cardinals (2-1) shot just 25 percent from the field, making just 17 of 67 attempts, including seven of 30 three-point attempts. Rose-Hulman (2-1) connected on 35 of 77 shots from the field, while outrebounding North Central, 60-34.
North Central led early 11-10 at the 5:59 mark of the opening quarter, but failed to score the remainder of the quarter while Rose-Hulman went on a 11-0 run to take a 21-11 lead.
After taking a 10-point deficit into the intermission, North Central's struggles continued in the third quarter as the Cardinals were outscored 22-9.
Rose-Hulman led by as many as 31 in the fourth quarter, led by Ally Bromenschenkel's 23 points and eight rebounds. Brianna Gliesmann finished with 12 points, while Abbie Marshall added 10.
No Cardinals finished in double figures, as
Mayson Whipple,
Anita Sterling and
Jessica Dahle each finished with eight points to lead the Cardinal offense. Sterling also finished with a team-high five rebounds and four steals.
North Central continues play at North Park tomorrow, taking on Manchester University at 12 p.m.
