Box Score

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Dec. 13, 2016) –
Struggling mightily out of the gate, the North Central College women's basketball team faced a 19-point deficit after the opening quarter, leading to a 95-72 loss at 23rd-ranked University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Tuesday evening.

The Cardinals (4-4) committed nine turnovers and shot just 3-of-15 from the field in the opening 10 minutes, while the Pointers (6-1) outscored North Central solely from the free throw line in the quarter.

After a Siarra O'Neil three-pointer cut the UW-Stevens Point lead to 4-3 with 8:34 to play in the first, the North Central offense went ice cold, going scoreless over the next eight minutes until a Cardinal basket with 37 seconds to play in the quarter snapped a 20-0 Pointer run.

The Cardinals never bounced back from the early offensive struggles, trailing by double digits the remainder of the contest.  The closest North Central came to the lead was 11 points, as a Mayson Whipple layup trimmed the Pointer lead to 66-55 with 9:55 to play in the contest, but UW-Stevens Point quickly opened the lead back up to 20 just three minutes later.

Whipple and Shannon Ryan each finished with 11 points, while Whipple led the team with six assists.  Selena Juarez also finished in double digits with 10 points, while Anita Sterling grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Five Pointers finished in double figures, led by Taylor Barrett's 21 points and eight rebounds.  Lauren Anklam finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points and dishing out 10 assists.  Autumn Hennes finished with 20 points, while Taylor Douglas and Carly Cerrato each added 11.

North Central opens play in the Hoops in Hawaii Holiday Classic on Monday, Dec. 19, taking on Chapman University at 5 p.m. (HST) in Honolulu, Hawaii.
