Box ScoreMar. 18, 2016 – The North Central College men's volleyball team (5-15, 4-7 Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League) cruised to their second straight win, making quick work of Olivet College 3-0 at the Cutler Events Center on Friday night.
The Comets put up a fight in the first set, as it finished with a score of 25-18. Freshman
Jake Braceros gained the kill on his first attempt, immediately followed by fellow freshman Kolev Bozhidar. This set the tone for the remainder of the set, and match in its entirety as the explosive combo proved to be too much for the Comets defense to handle.
The Cardinals raced out to a fast start in the second set, getting 9-3 lead early thanks to errors from the Comets and kills by Bozhidar, Braceros and an ace from freshman
Jacob Zemba. The Comets would not go down easily, but thanks to freshmen
Ben Cartwright and
Raymond Kraus being in the right spots defensively, the Cardinals were able to save several key points to help give the Cardinals a 25-20 win.
The third set saw things really click for head Coach
Kyle Exline and the Cardinals, as it was over quickly with a score of 25-10. Zemba served an ace to put the Cardinals up 12-3, and from there the match had become too far out of reach for Olivet. Freshmen
Mateo Gonzalez and
Anthony Kluzak would also contribute offensively, showing the depth the team possesses.
Bozhidar finished as the kills leader with 12, hitting at an impressive percentage of .800 and one block, which led the team in that category. Braceros also finished with ten kills, and Zemba with seven. Cartwright led the way with seven digs, while Kraus had five to go along with 30 assists, rounding out the statistical leaders for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals will attempt to gain their third consecutive victory tomorrow, when they face Adrian College (1-15) in Adrian, Michigan. Play is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. Â Live video coverage can be accessed by clickingÂ
