Port Charlotte, Fla. (Mar. 19, 2016) – Facing two challenging opponents including nationally ranked Wooster College, the North Central College baseball team continued to stay perfect on the season, defeating Manchester University 2-1 and knocking off the College of Wooster 5-2.

In a strong defensive matchup against Manchester, the Cardinals would be forced to rely on their pitching and defense to secure the victory. Manchester scored one run in the second inning to take the lead as Sean Knepper led off with a single and was able to steal second and third before scoring on a fielder's choice. The Spartan lead would be lost in the fourth as Bobby Smith and Chris Hill delivered back-to-back singles. Two outs later, Dan Sotiros delivered a clutch two-RBI double to score Smith and Hill. North Central's pitching and defense took over from there, executing a flawless final seven innings and committing zero errors in the game.

Russell Hoh earned the win for his excellent complete game performance, allowing only one run on five hits while striking out six.

The Cardinals (7-0) would face the College of Wooster in game two, ranked 20th in the nation. The Cardinals scored early thanks to a Sing Fong groundout that allowed Michael Mateja to score in the second and put up two runs in the third as Hill and Mateja drove in Jeremy Quade and Smith. Wooster got one back in the bottom half of the third on two hits but left two runners on base, limiting the damage. The fighting Scots cut the deficit again in the fifth as they took advantage of a North Central error, cutting the lead 3-2.

North Central took that run back in the seventh as Mateja drove in Quade who started the inning with a leadoff walk, but the Cardinals would leave the bases loaded, extending their lead 4-2. North Central added another run in the eighth as David Rico doubled to score Fong.

Bryan Polowy (2-0) earned his second win of the season, allowing seven hits and one earned run over eight innings while striking out six. Austin Polezoes earned the save after throwing a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts.

North Central faces Keystone College tomorrow at 11 am in game five of their six game trip.
