(Mar. 19, 2016) – Outscoring their opponents 15-3 in their doubleheader, the North Central College softball team took both of their games Saturday afternoon, defeating Greenville College 9-0 and Bates College 6-3.
The Cardinals (4-2) scored in all but two innings, claiming a lead in the first thanks to an
Andrea Starr RBI double. In the second,
Jenna Amazzalorso delivered a sacrifice fly to left to drive in the run from third, giving North Central a 2-0 lead.
North Central tallied three runs in the third as
Samantha Anderson started the inning off with a leadoff walk and scoring two batters later off of an
Amanda Walker double. Two RBI doubles by
Rachele Belletini and
Jenna Trojniar would cap off the frame for the Cardinals.
Madison O'Donnell would record a RBI single in the sixth and the Cardinals would add some insurance runs in the seventh, scoring three off of five hits.
Starr received her second win of the season and recorded her first shutout of the season allowing seven hits and striking out three. The defense recorded only one error in the game, playing solid all around. Trojniar and Amazzalorso recorded two RBI's each while both batting .500 in game one.
North Central would take on Bates College in game two and the Bobcats would be on the board first, manufacturing three runs on two hits. North Central would take the lead shortly after in the bottom of the third.
Taylor Clugston doubled then stole third and would be driven in by Walker. Starr singled to advance Walker to second when Belletini drove Walker in with an RBI double. A sacrifice fly by
Brooke Kehoe would score Starr and Trojniar doubled to bring home Belletini. The Cardinals took a 4-3 lead and never looked back, scoring one in the fourth and again in the sixth. Walker logged her second RBI of the game in the fourth while Starr took the final RBI.
Sarah Esposito (2-1) was credited with the win, allowing only six hits and three runs while striking out six batters.
North Central takes on 24
th ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 4 pm and St. Norbert College at 6 pm on Monday, Mar. 21.
