HAMMOND, Ind. (Mar. 30, 2016) – Winners of three straight matches, the North Central College women's tennis team handed Purdue University Calumet their first loss of the season on Wednesday afternoon, coming away with a 6-3 victory.
The Cardinals (8-5) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, as the duo of
Clare O'Connor and
Kelsey Forkin outdueled Lori Haas and Ashley Pabey, 8-6 at the No. 1 position. At No. 3,
Marisa Coladipietro and
Karissa Schroeder made quick work of Emily Pearson and Cynthia Basu-Chavez, 8-1.
In singles play, Forkin cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Pabey at the No. 2 spot, while O'Connor held off Abby Kvachkoff, 6-0, 5-7, 10-3 at No. 3. Schroeder sealed the victory for the Cardinals with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Pearson at the No. 5 position, while
Kassandra Bernardo downed Basu-Chavez, 6-1, 7-5 at No. 6.
