KENOSHA, Wis. (May 6, 2016) – Dropping back-to-back games for just the second time this season, the North Central baseball team dropped the opening game of the season series 11-4 at the hands of Carthage College on Friday afternoon at Augie Schmidt Field.
The Red Men (19-17, 11-9 CCIW) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and the Cardinals were never able to take over the lead the rest of the way. Jordan Wiegold doubled to lead off the bottom of the first and later came around to score on a sacrifice fly.
Carthage added three more runs in the bottom of the second, scoring a pair of runs on back-to-back singles, while plating another run on a sacrifice fly later in the inning.
North Central (26-8, 13-6 CCIW) cut the lead in half with two runs in the top of the third, as
Dan Sotiros scored on a wild pitch after singling to left center to lead off the inning. A few pitches later,
Bobby Smith lofted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring
Matt Sutherland, who reached on a single to right earlier in the inning.
The Cardinals drew to within one the following inning as

th double of the season to right and came around to score on a single from brother
Dan Sotiros two batters later, trimming the Carthage lead 4-3.
The game took a turn for the worse in the bottom half of the fourth, as the Carthage offense went off for four hits, including two homeruns, to plate five runs in the inning and take a commanding 9-4 advantage.
The Red Men added an insurance run in each of the seventh and eighth innings to cruise to the 11-4 win, as North Central outhit Carthage 13-11, but the Red Men finished with seven extra base hits to the Cardinals' two.
Nick Sotiros led the Cardinal offense with a 4-for-5 performance from the plate with a run scored, while
Dan Sotiros finished 3-for-4 with a walk, run scored and RBI. Sutherland also added a pair of hits and a run scored, while
Mark Khoury was 1-for-1 with a RBI in a pinch-hit appearance.
Jordan Van Dyck received the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs, seven earned, over three innings with three walks.
