Box Score
Sep 1., 2016 – The 2016 season began in promising fashion for the North Central College men's soccer team as they defeated Edgewood College 2-1 on Thursday night, at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
Junior forward
Ryan O'Deen gave the Eagle's defenders problems throughout the game, particularly in the first half. In the 14
th minute, he almost opened the scoring for the Cardinals but his shot sailed just wide of the goalpost.
The team-first and unselfish mentality being stressed by head coach
Matt Klosterman throughout the preseason also was on display early, when O'Deen then scored with 17:05 on the clock. He was assisted by senior midfielder
Chandler Olah and sophomore forward
Ivan Bohorquez, in a passage of fluid team play that will hopefully be a sign of things to come this season for the Cardinals.
Ten minutes later, it was again O'Deen scoring for the Cardinals, this time on a penalty kick. Barely a minute after that, in the 28
th minute, O'Deen almost scored a hat trick, but his shot grazed the post.
The Cardinals went into the half with a 2-0 lead and much to feel positive about, but the Eagles were not prepared to go down without a fight in the second half.
Junior midfielder Henry Simon scored with 74
th minute, but thanks to rock solid defense from the ever-reliable pair of junior defenders
Jon Borzick and
Nate Donovan, the Cardinals were able to close out the game and go home with the victory.
The Cardinals look to build off this initial victory when they play Carleton College at 4:00 P.M on Sunday, September 4. Live in game statistics and video can be accessed by clicking
