Sep 24., 2016 – By continuing to trust the process and play as a team, the North Central College men's soccer team banded together and secured a hard-earned 2-0 victory over the Central College Dutch.
The Cardinals opened the game in spectacular fashion, with senior forward John Kissel almost scoring on a header 4:48 into the game. Not long after, with 5:09 on the clock, Kissel shot again and would not be denied. The goal gave the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead, and were unlucky not to extend that lead even further prior to halftime.
Sophomore forward Ivan Bohorquez sent a shot sailing just wide of the left goal post at 7:59, while Kissel was unlucky not build the Cardnials' lead when he had a shot blocked at 13:33, and missed to the left at 16:48.
The Cardinals had several other scoring opportunities in the first half, freshman forward Alexis Flores had a header miss high 34:30 into the half, as did sophomore midfielder Teddy Trifunovski at 41:14.
The second half begun much how the first half did, with the Cardinals generating several scoring opportunities early. Senior forward Ramon Marin and Senior defender Jon Borzick both had shots that came close to scoring in the 50th minute, while junior defender Nate Donovan missed just high in the 56th.
Marin had a shot go high in the 69th minute while sophomore forward Gavin Sanchez missed to the right under a minute later. The second half was an offensive onslaught from the Cardinals, and it would only be a matter of time until the Cardinals would build their lead.
It was in the 78th minute that the Cardinals were again rewarded for their hard work, this time via a penalty kick from senior defender Chanlder Olah, with the goal never being in doubt.
