Sept. 7, 2016Â -Â North Central College men's cross country runner Zach Plank has been named the first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Athlete of the Week recipient for the 2016 season.Â
A two-time winner of the award and the CCIW individual champion last season, Plank was recognized this week after leading the No. 1-ranked Cardinals to a comfortable victory in their first meet of the campaign, the Elmhurst College Earlybird Invitational on Friday.
Plank finished first in the 181-man field, breaking his own record on the 6,000-meter (3.7-mile) course with a time of 18 minutes, 50.3 seconds. North Central claimed seven of the top eight finishers and lacked three points of a perfect score, finishing with a total of 18 points. No. 12-ranked Loras College was the closes pursuer with 48.
North Central competes in two locations next Friday, traveling to the Country Financial Illinois State University Invitational as well as the Aurora University Spartan Invitational.
