Cardinals Earn Pair of Wins at North Park Quad

The North Central College women's volleyball team turned in a pair of wins on Tuesday evening at the North Park University Quad, taking down Maranatha Baptist University, 3-1 before cruising past Concordia University Chicago, 3-0 in match two.

In the opener against Maranatha Baptist (4-1), the two teams traded the first two set each by scores of 25-23, while North Central bounced back from the second set loss to claim the final two sets 25-21 and 25-17.

Three Cardinals finished with double-figure kills, led by Cara Howell's 14, while Megan Bielawski and Julie Laugel each added 13.  Alexa Zimbelman dished out a match-high 48 assists and also led the team with three service aces, while Olivia Hanley paced the team with 23 digs defensively.

North Central carried that momentum into the second match of the evening against Concordia Chicago (1-5), claiming the opening set 25-19, before dominating the second set by a score of 25-13.  The Cardinals capped the three-set victory with a 25-17 win in the final set, as the Cardinal defense held the Cougars to a .068 attack percentage over the course of the match.

Howell once again led the Cardinal attack with 10 kills, while Anna Billman added seven.  Annmarie Franz recorded a match-high four service aces, while Tara Tralewski finished with three.  Defensively, Zimbelman led the way with 10 digs, while also leading the team with 27 assists.

North Central travels to the Mount St. Joseph University Charlie Wrublewski Tournament, Sept. 9-10, taking on the host Lions on Friday at 8 p.m. (ET) inside the Harrington Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
