Box Score
Jan 25., 2016- Propelled by a 50-28 rebounding advantage and an 11-0 run to start the game, the North Central College men's basketball team turned in one of their strongest performances of the season, dominating the Millikin University Big Blue 63-44 on Wednesday night, at Gregory Arena in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) contest.
Junior center
Alex Sorenson led the way a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Fellow junior, guard
Erwin Henry chipped in 16 points to go along with nine rebounds and three assists, while senior point guard
Jagger Anderson contributed 11 points, four assists and didn't commit a single turnover. Freshman forward
Matt Cappelletti also caused problems for the Big Blue, crashing the boards to finish with a game and career high 14 rebounds.
It was Sorenson and Henry who put the Cardinals in the drivers' seat early, with a Sorensen layup with 18:36 on the clock, followed by a Henry jump shot with 18:01 remaining in the half spurring the Cardinals hot start.
Thanks to suffocating defense from North Central, the Big Blue would not reach double-figure points until there was 3:01 remaining in the half, at which point the Cardinals had accumulated a 30-10 lead.
The second half saw the Cardinals not let up, with Sorenson scoring back-to-back baskets within the first two minutes, all but ensuring Millikin did not get themselves back into the game.
Sophomore guard
Tommy Koth also provided the Cardinals with a spark off the bench, sinking two free throws followed by a jump shot inside the 12
th minute of the half, finishing with an efficient four points in eight minutes.
The lead would balloon to as high as 28 with 3:18 left in the game, thanks to layups from Henry and Andersen, while the game ended with the Cardinals holding a comfortable 19 point lead.
The Cardinals look to build on their momentum when they return to Gregory Arena on Saturday night when they host local rivals Wheaton College (8-9, 4-4), tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Live video and stats can be found
