WAUKESHA, Wis. (Jan. 4, 2017) – Eclipsing the century mark for the sixth time this season, the North Central College women's basketball team rolled past Carroll University, 117-86 in its highest scoring affair so far this season.
Carroll jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead early on, but a 20-6 Cardinal run over the next four minutes gave North Central a 23-14 advantage and would hold the lead the remainder of the contest. The Cardinal run was highlighted by three pointers from
Maya Walls,
Miranda Grizaffi and
Kelly Wallner, while
Paula Zerante added five points during the run.
North Central led by double-digits a majority of the second quarter, opening up its largest lead of the half right before the intermission, as
Jessica Dahle hit from beyond the arc to increase the Cardinal lead 62-40 at halftime.
The offense continued to roll in the second half, at one point leading by as many as 40 points in the fourth quarter, while the defense had its way with the Pioneer offense all evening, forcing 38 turnovers on the evening.
North Central finished the contest shooting 45-of-120 from the field, as the 45 made field goals rank third all-time in program history, while the 120 attempts rank second on the single-game list.
Five Cardinals scored in double-figures, led by Zerante's career-high 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and 6-of-7 shooting from the free throw line. Grizaffi finished with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting from three-point range, as her six made threes rank tied for third on the program's single game list.
Natali Dimitrova added 12 points off the bench, while
Diamond Calicott and
Michaela Reedy each finished with 10.
Lyndsay Brennan dished out a game-high seven assists, while leading the team with four steals and seven rebounds.
Carroll's Sara Hartl led all players with 24 points, while Caylee Koker and Morgan Lund added double-doubles, finishing with 15 points and 14 rebounds and 18 points and 15 rebounds, respectively.
North Central continues College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play on Saturday, Jan. 7, returning home to face North Park University at 5 p.m. inside Gregory Arena.
