Oct. 23, 2017 - North Central College running back Austin Breunig has been named one of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week for the week of Oct. 21. The CCIW announced this week's honorees on Monday.
Breunig was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week after helping lead the Cardinals to a 54-2 victory over Augustana College on Saturday. Breunig gained 114 yards on 21 rushing attempts, scoring three touchdowns, while also catching two passes for 23 yards.
Also earning Player of the Week honors following North Central's season-opening victory over Robert Morris University-Chicago, Breunig leads the CCIW in rushing yards per game (100.7) and all-purpose yards per game (145.4).
The Cardinals have received a total of six CCIW Player of the Week awards this season. Quarterback Broc Rutter has also been recognized as an Offensive Player of the Week, while defensive back Pat Cravens and linebacker Tommy Sora have been recognized on defense and defensive back Matt Sutherland received the distinction on special teams.
Ranked 10th nationally by D3football.com and 15th by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), the Cardinals (6-1, 4-1 CCIW) travel to Carroll University on Saturday. Kickoff at Schneider Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
