CHICAGO, Ill. (Oct. 25, 2017) – After suffering two losses last week, the North Central College women's soccer team secured a commanding 6-1 victory over the North Park University on Wednesday evening in Chicago, due largely to the team effort on both ends of the field and six players contributing to the score.

Lexi Dimovski got the scoring going for North Central in the 17th minute after stealing the ball and taking it to the net from the 15 yard line. Looking to capitalize on the team's offensive possession, Anna Brodjian took a shot from the box but Vikings goalkeeper Sydney Martinez was there for the save. Bobbling the ball, Martinez lost her grip and Nicole Novak was there for the rebound, scoring her first goal of the season and putting the Cardinals ahead 2-0 in the 25th minute.

With the early goals, the Cardinals had significant offensive momentum, playing as a cohesive unit. Receiving a free kick, Brodjian did her part on a free kick, sending the ball past Martinez in the 29th minute, giving North Central a 3-0 lead with a lot of time left in the game.

North Central was not done just yet. Rachel Kolling received a perfectly timed pass from Catherine Kent at the 35 yard line, putting her in the right position to score her first goal of the season and send the Cardinals into halftime up 4-0 over North Park.

The Cardinals could taste victory, but knew there was still 45 more minutes of play and could not let up the intensity. In the 59th minute, Meagan Brakob got in on the scoring action, netting her first goal of the season off of an assist from Kent on the corner kick. The 5-0 lead was the largest margin for North Central this season.

The Vikings could not seem to stop the Cardinals and were on the brink of facing a shut out before Lorena Soria scored in the 84th minute to put North Park on the board with six minutes remaining.

But the Cardinal scoring action was not going to end there as Nicole Novak scored her second goal of the night in the final seconds of the 89th minute, securing a 6-1 victory for North Central.

With this win, North Central tied the season record for number of conference wins.

Novak paced the Cardinals with two goals and Kent led the team with two assists. With her goal this evening, Dimovski moved into ninth place in program season history with 20 points this season and one contest remaining. Kolling and Brakob each contributed one goal apiece.

Defensively, Frantz recorded four saves on 12 shots faced with much credit to defensive efforts from Kolling and Brakob on the backline and Kent and Brodjian in the midfield.

The Cardinals (8-7-1, 4-3 CCIW) host Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, Oct. 28 at noon, celebrating Senior Day and the end of the regular season. A link to live in-game coverage can be found HERE.
