Oct. 3, 2017 - North Central College junior Dhruvil Patel has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, receiving the award for the week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1. The CCIW announced its selection Tuesday.
Patel won the individual championship at the Midwest Intercollegiate Invitational on Friday, touring the 8,000-meter (five-mile) course in 25 minutes, 0.7 seconds to finish nearly 12 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. The Cardinals won 16-team meet with a perfect score of 15.
North Central runners have won the CCIW's Athlete of the Week award each week the team has competed this season. Patel also received the distinction following the Principia College Invitational on Sept. 2, while Zach Hird was recognized after the Illinois State University Invitational on Sept. 8 and Aaron Spivey was honored after the Wheaton College Gil Dodds Invitational on Sept. 16.
The Cardinals will send a squad to the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational on Friday at St. James Farm in Warrenville.
