ALMA, Mich. (Dec. 15, 2017) - An unrelenting barrage from beyond the three-point arc helped clear the way to a comfortable win for the North Central College men's basketball team Friday evening, as the Cardinals hit early and often from long range in claiming a 73-52 victory over the Alma College Scots at Art Smith Arena.
North Central (5-4) sank 14 of 32 three-point shots, one shy of a single-game program record, and led virtually the entire way in posting a second straight win on the road.
The Cardinals held Alma without a field goal for more than four minutes to start the game, as three-pointers by Matt Cappelletti and Aiden Chang got the visitors in front. An 8-0 run, capped off by a three from Blaise Meredith, gave North Central its first double-figure lead at 22-12. The Cardinals held Alma (1-5) scoreless for the final 3:01 of the first half, scoring the final eight points of the period on a tip-in by Alex Sorenson and triples from Cappelletti and Mike Pollack, and took a 40-21 lead into halftime. The advantage never dipped below 10 points the rest of the way.
Cappelletti led all scorers with 18 points, making 6 of 10 shots from the floor and 4 of 8 from three-point range. Erwin Henry scored 12 points, while Chang and Pollack each scored 11. Sorenson pulled down 13 rebounds and Connor Raridon grabbed 12 as North Central owned a 49-32 advantage on the boards. Raridon also finished with five assists.
The Cardinals return home to host Albion College (1-6) on Tuesday. Tipoff at Gregory Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
