RICHARDSON, Texas (Dec. 29, 2017) – Squaring off against a tough nationally ranked opponent in 19th-ranked Trinity University (Texas), the North Central College women's basketball team fell 89-56 in the opening game of the University of Texas-Dallas Classic on Friday.
North Central (2-9) jumped out to an early 10-4 lead behind buckets from
Maya Walls and
Lyndsay Brennan, while
Mayson Whipple knocked down a three-pointer less than three minutes in.
That lead did not last long however, as Trinity (6-2) rattled off 11 straight points to quickly take a 15-10 advantage and would hold the lead the remainder of the contest.
The Tigers opened up an 11-point advantage with 3:41 to play in the second quarter and led by double digits the rest of the way, finishing the contest shooting 57 percent from the field, including 8-of-14 from three-point range while the Cardinals finished 8-of-41 from beyond the arc.
Walls was the lone Cardinal to finish in double figures, finishing with a team-leading 10 points and eight rebounds, while Whipple,
Haydn Braun and
Jessica Dahle each added seven points.
Micah Weaver paced the Tiger offense with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field, while Emily Daniel and Julia Ackerman finished with 14 and 11, respectively.
With a short turnaround, North Central wraps up the non-conference schedule tomorrow in the finale of the UT-Dallas Classic, taking on Kean University (Texas) at 2 p.m. Links to live in-game coverage are available
