ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Feb. 21, 2017) – Closing out the season on a high note, the North Central College women's basketball team came away with a 94-82 win on Tuesday evening inside the Carver Center behind five double-digit scorers.
North Central trailed a majority of the first quarter, but a layup from
Jamie Cuny and three free throws from
Jessica Dahle knotted the score at 27 after the opening 10 minutes of play.
Completing a 10-2 run at the 7:23 mark of the second quarter,
Caroline Heimerdinger connected from three-point range, while
Shannon Ryan knocked down a pair of free throws to give North Central a 32-29 lead.
Augustana (17-8, 10-6 CCIW) managed to tie the score 49-49 with 8:02 to play in the third quarter, but back-to-back threes from
Paula Zerante and
Miranda Grizaffi regained the lead 55-49.
North Central would lead the remainder of the contest, opening up a double-digit advantage with just over two minutes to play in the third as
Siarra O'Neil hit from beyond the arc on consecutive possessions giving the Cardinals a 67-56 lead.
The Cardinals held a double-figure lead a majority of the final quarter, finishing the game 16-of-50 from three-point range, while holding the Vikings to just a 4-of-25 clip from beyond the arc.
Anita Sterling paced the Cardinals with 16 points and nine rebounds on the evening, while Heimerdinger added 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting from three-point range. Zerante finished with 11 points, connecting on 3-of-5 three-point attempts, while Dahle also added 11 and O'Neil scored 10.
Kaycee Kallenberger led the Viking offense with 16 points, while Mikayla Fallon finished with a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double and Carly McCameron added a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double as well.
North Central closes the season with an overall record of 14-11, including a 8-8 record in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play.
