PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (19 Mar. 2017) – Struggling to move their offense in the right direction combined with allowing a season high in hits, the North Central College baseball team fell 13-2 to Denison University Saturday at North Charlotte Regional Park.
The Cardinals (1-2) jumped out to early lead in their first at-bats, as
Jeremy Quade led the inning off with a walk followed by stealing second. Two batters later, Quade would score on an error by the Denison catcher to give North Central an early 1-0 lead. That lead would not last long as Denison used two hits and effective base-running to take a 3-1 lead at the end of one. The Cardinals would cut the deficit in half the next inning thanks to an RBI single from
Robert Zebrauskas but that would cap off the Cardinal scoring.
Denison scored six runs in the sixth off seven hits and scored another four runs on three hits and a North Central error. Zebrauskas finished 2-for-3 on the day with
Chris Hill,
Nick Sotiros,
Matt Sutherland, and
Sam Siebers all collected one hit on the day. Quade and Sutherland both tallied stolen bases in the game as well. Defensively, the Cardinals committed only one error but were outhit 17-6. Denison's Jack Blanchard finished the day an impressive 4-for-5 with four RBI's while multiple Big Red finished with a multi-hit game.
The Cardinals take on Adrian College on March 19 in a doubleheader with game one beginning at 12 pm followed by 3 pm (ET).
