PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (21 Mar. 2017) – Trying to avenge their loss the previous day, the North Central College baseball team was unable to overcome a fourth inning surge against the College of Wooster, falling 11-6 to the eighth-ranked Fighting Scots Tuesday afternoon.

The Cardinals (2-5) took the second opportunity and jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in their first at-bats. Jeremy Quade reached second on a hit by pitch from the Wooster hurler and successfully stole second an out later. Michael Mateja then doubled down the left field line to score Quade followed by Chris Hill trading places with Mateja with an RBI-double to left. Wooster cut the lead down 2-1 in the bottom half, using two hits and a walk to get on the board. North Central took that run back in the third as Hill singled to center field, scoring Mateja in the process. Wooster would again cut down the Cardinal lead in their half, using a leadoff single plus a wild pitch and another single to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead heading into the fourth.

Quade would be back at again, doubling to right field to score Robert Zebrauskas and coming around to score on a Sing Fong RBI single. The Cardinals would hold their largest lead of the day for a brief period as the Fighting Scots used a North Central error and four hits to score five runs, taking a 7-5 lead after four. The teams would exchange zeros until the eighth as the Cardinals would be within one courtesy of Mateja's sacrifice fly but that would be as close as North Central would come to completing the upset. Wooster used four runs in what would be their last at-bats to secure the victory, piling on five hits in the eighth.

The Cardinals were outhit 16-9 in the contest as Hill and Zebrauskas led the Cardinals with two hits each. Hill and Mateja finished with two RBI while Quade and Mateja scored twice.

The Cardinals finish their spring trip on March 22 as they take on another top ranked team in #No. 18 Johns Hopkins at 1 pm (ET).
