OLIVET, Mich. (Mar. 22, 2017) - In its second match-up of the year, the North Central College men's volleyball team returned to the Cutler Event Center Wednesday to pick up another win over the Olivet College Comets, at the hands of sophomores
Jacob Zemba and
Jake Braceros.
Zemba and Braceros dominated the Cardinals offense earning six kills each. Braceros also notched a match-high of eight digs and five service aces. Freshman
Brendan Crawford and sophomore
Bozhidar Kolev both tallied four kills apiece while sophomore
Raymond Kraus enjoyed three kills and 15 assists.
Defensively, sophomore
Ben Cartwright tallied five digs and sophomore
Kevin Messer and Zemba both earned three.
The first set was all North Central as the Cardinals cruised to a 18-10 lead. The Comets took a timeout, which found them two points, though the Cardinals rattled off a 5-3 spurt to take command of the set and close out the opener 25-15. North Central recorded it's highest hitting percentage (.389) of the match this set.
Set two had a similar tone as North Central grew to an early 19-10 lead. Olivet tried to counter with a kill, though the Cardinals remained stout and answered with a 6-3 run. North Central ended the set up 25-14.
Olivet battled in the last set with the score knotted at 13-all. North Central enjoyed a 5-0 run thanks to two service errors from Olivet, a Braceros service ace and kills from freshman
Michael Trunzo and sophomore
Andrzej Kubinski to claim a 18-13 lead. Ahead by five, the Comet's defense failed to return the ball allowing the Cardinals to soar to a 25-17 win.
North Central hosts Loras College inside Gregory Arena this Friday, Mar. 24 at 7 p.m.
