CLAREMONT, Calif. (Mar. 23, 2017) – The North Central College women's lacrosse came out of the gates with a head of steam as they held an early advantage, but ultimately it was not enough to overcome Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Thursday night as they fell 16-3 at the South Athletics Complex in Claremont, California.

Freshman Mynk Richardson-Clerk got things rolling for the Cardinals, obtaining the initial draw control of the game, which led to senior Madison Maas giving the Cardinals the early lead, as she found herself on the receiving end of an assist from fellow senior Kassie Whaling just 59 seconds into the half.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the Saghens went on a 7-0 run, showing why they are one of the most feared teams on the west coast. Despite this, North Central have never been a team to quit, and they bounced back with Maas scoring her second goal of the game with 4:41 left in the half, coming on the heels of another Richardson-Clerk draw control. The Cardinals went into the half trailing 9-2.

While the second half predominantly belonged to the Saghens, the Cardinals were not without their highlights as Whaling continued her excellent form as of late, scoring with 14:30 left in the half.

Top performers for North Central included Maas who finished with two goals, and Whaling who ended the night with one goal and one assist to her name. Richardson-Clerk impressed out of the center as she obtained three draw controls, while sophomore Abigail Leers had three ground balls to lead the team in that category. Richardson-Clerk and freshman Madeline McHugh each contributed two.

Defensively, the Cardinals were led by Leers, who recorded two caused turnovers, and sophomore Camille Seghesio who finished with six saves.

The Cardinals have a day off prior to playing their final game at 11:00 a.m. (PT) in Whittier, California, against the Whittier College Poets, as they look to bounce back and end their trip to the golden state on a golden note.
