KENOSHA, Wis. (Apr. 15, 2017) - The North Central College men's lacrosse team sustained its first loss in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play on Saturday, hanging tough most of the way before host Carthage College pulled away late to secure an 8-4 victory over the Cardinals at Art Keller Field.
The score was tied at 3-3 midway through the third period before the conference-leading Red Men (12-3, 4-0 CCIW) scored five of the game's final six goals, including all three fourth-quarter scores.
After Carthage's Luke Seydel opened the scoring with 8:18 left in the first period, the Cardinals answered quickly with a goal by
Noah Parrill with 6:33 on the clock. Billy Lane scored with 5:00 left in the period to nudge the hosts ahead once again, but North Central's
Danny Boyle leveled the score at 2-2 early in the second quarter off an assist from
Jared Weaver.
The Red Men found the net shortly after the halftime break, as Andy Szun scored less than two minutes after play resumed, but North Central had the answer once again as Boyle assisted
Tommy Huizinga for a goal with 8:36 left in the third period. Carthage won the next two faceoffs and did not relinquish possession before lighting up the scoreboard, getting goals from Seydel and Ben Morgan.
Sean Tomonari scored off a pass from
Brock Haake to narrow the gap to 5-4 late in the third quarter, but the Red Men scored three times in a 62-second stretch in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
John Fitzgerald caused five turnovers for the Cardinals, who also got five ground balls from Tomonari and eight saves from goalkeeper
Dylan Cost.Â
North Central hosts Augustana College (5-8, 1-1) on Wednesday, with action at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
