Sept. 18, 2017 - North Central College senior Tommy Sora has been named one of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 16. The CCIW announced this week's honorees on Monday.

Sora was recognized as the CCIW's Defensive Player of the Week due to his efforts in the Cardinals' 26-13 victory over CCIW rival Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday. Sora collected a team-high nine tackles and ended the Titans' first possession of the second half with a 31-yard interception return. North Central held IWU scoreless during the second half and allowed only 20 yards on the Titans' final five possessions.

The Cardinals have claimed one of the CCIW's weekly awards in both games they have played thus far this season. Senior running back Austin Breunig was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week following North Central's season-opening victory over Robert Morris University-Chicago.

The fifth-ranked Cardinals (2-0, 1-0 CCIW) resume conference play Saturday at Millikin University. Kickoff at Frank M. Lindsay Field is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
