Fulton, Mo. (Sept. 3, 2017) - Despite taking Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to double overtime on Saturday, the North Central College men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss, finishing the Westminster College Tournament with a record of 1-1.

Though the Cardinals outshot the Fightin' Engineers 11 to 6 in the first period, Rose-Hulman would not let North Central pull away. With talented players such as Teddy Trifunovski and Alexis Flores making multiple attempts at goal it was clear that Rose-Hulman was not going to make this an easy game.

At the 39th minute of the first period junior Chris Tovar brought North Centrals' final offensive spark with back to back shot attempts, just before closing the first half scoreless.

The second half was a highly contested defensive battle as both teams held strong utilizing their defensive lines to thwart off any chances of taking the lead. With time running out in the second half, the Cardinals tried to poke in a goal with a corner kick by Austin Lombardi, and had yet another chance to cement their victory with a shot attempt by Gavin Sanchez.

In their efforts to defeat Rose-Hulman, North Central played not one but two overtime periods. Despite their persistent efforts on goal in the extra periods by the Cardinals, the Fightin' Engineers finished the victor on an own goal by North Central in the 106th minute.

The Cardinals return home to Benedetti–Wehrli Stadium for its home opener against Carleton College, on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at 7:30. The link to live stats is available here.
