Sept. 5, 2017 - North Central College senior Austin Breunig has been named one of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week for the first week of the 2017 season. The CCIW announced this week's honorees on Tuesday.
Breunig was recognized as the CCIW's Offensive Player of the Week after contributing to the Cardinals' 33-31 victory over Robert Morris University-Chicago on Saturday. North Central's starting running back rolled up 228 all-purpose yards, including 125 rushing yards on a career-high 27 carries, and scored touchdowns on a four-yard run and a 78-yard reception in the first half.
Breunig moved into fifth place in the Cardinals' history in career all-purpose yards (2,872) and seventh place in rushing yards (2,131) during the game, and also ranks seventh in school history in rushing touchdowns (24) and total touchdowns (27).
The Cardinals (1-0) are idle this week and will return to action Saturday, Sept. 16, hosting 14th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University in the CCIW opener for both teams. Kickoff at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
