2018 All-CCIW Women's Tennis Teams
Oct. 26, 2018 – Continuing to etch themselves into the record books, the North Central College women's tennis team placed three on the All-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) teams, the first time in program history with multiple all-conference selections.
After becoming the first player in school history to earn first team All-CCIW last season,
Diana Barcelata is now the first player to earn first team honors in consecutive seasons, after being named to the first team in 2018, going a perfect 8-0 at the No. 1 singles position in conference play. Barcelata finished the fall with an overall record of 13-2, while teaming going 8-7 at No. 2 doubles.
Freshman
Hannah Hougland was named to the second team and was also named Newcomer of the Year, posting a 7-1 record at No. 2 doubles in CCIW play while going 14-4 overall. Hougland also teamed up with
Alaina Kanthaphixay to go 15-3 at No. 1 doubles, as the pair finished third at the CCIW Championship, while Hougland also turned in a third-place finish at No. 2 singles.
Kanthaphixay was also named to the second team, playing primarily at the No. 3 position, finishing the fall with an overall record of 12-4, including a 5-3 record over the conference schedule. Kanthaphixay earned the CCIW Championship at No. 3 singles, becoming just the second player in program history to earn a singles title at the championship, joining Kayla Garcia at No. 6 singles in 2013.
Augustana College's Caitlyn Schaffer claimed her second-straight CCIW Player of the Year honor after winning the No. 1 singles bracket at the CCIW Championship, while Augustana's Jon Miedema was named Coach of the Year after leading the Vikings to their third CCIW title in the last four years.
North Central opens the 2019 spring schedule on Saturday, Mar. 2 against NCAA Division I opponent Eastern Illinois University.
