CCIW Release
Oct. 9, 2018 – North Central College senior men's cross country runner
Zach Hird has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 8, bringing the Cardinals CCIW awards total to four for the season. The CCIW announced the honorees on Tuesday.
In his first 8,000-meter race of the season, Hird turned in a second place performance on Oct. 5 at the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational with a time of 25:38.0. North Central, the No. 1-ranked team in both the Midwest region and the nation, won the meet with 66 points against 18 teams.
This is Hird's first honor for the 2018 season—North Central's other three CCIW Athlete of the Week awards have gone to teammate
Dhruvil Patel.
North Central travels to Colfax, Wis. on Saturday, Oct. 13 for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Kollege Town Invitational to get a glimpse of this year's NCAA Division III National Championship course. The Cardinals will race in the Pre-Nationals race beginning at 10:20 a.m and run a second group in the open race at 11:40 a.m.
