ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Nov. 14, 2018) - Wrestling in their first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) dual of the season, the North Central College men's wrestling team took down Augustana College 40-3.
Junior
Ian Mullen started the action off for the Cardinals at 125, scoring a fall at 1:27 against Augustana's (0-1, 0-1 CCIW) Ben Gruenstein to make the score 6-0. Following at 133,
Moe Mitchell won his match against Tristian Curtis by a 6-4 decision, bringing the score up to 9-0.
The Cardinal's next competitor was
Marc Fleenor at 141, also receiving the decision by a 6-3 score to add another three points to the team score. The next two Cardinal wrestlers also won their matches by decisions, with
Anthony Rink at 149 and
Rafael Roman at 157.
Breaking the string of straight decisions was
Danny Harris at 165, pinning Jacob Poole of the Vikings at 2:28. With the Cardinals now up by a score of 25-0, Cam Hayes took the mat for the Cardinals against T.J. Lunney, bringing in four more points with an 11-2 major decision to put North Central up 29-0.
At 184,
Cody Baldridge won by tech fall at 4:07 over Hunter Holdcraft to add five more points to the team total.
Tyler Vittal was able to pin Augustana's Triston Richardson at 197 to bring the score to 40-0 going into the final weight class. The Vikings were finally able to put points on the board at 285, with Adarios Jones winning by a 3-0 decision over North Central's
Audel Ochoa.
The Cardinals (3-0, 1-0 CCIW) take action again this weekend, traveling to Coe College to take place in their Invitational. Action is scheduled to start at 9 am.
