WILMINGTON, Ohio (Nov. 25, 2018) – Playing in their second game in less than 24 hours on the final day of the Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament, the North Central College women's basketball team struggled on the offensive end of the court all afternoon long, falling 57-40 at the hands of Centre College.
North Central (1-3) shot a season-low 15 percent from the field on just 8-of-52 shooting, while making just one of 21 three-point attempts. 23 of the Cardinals' 40 points came from the free throw line on the afternoon.
Despite the offensive struggles, North Central hung with Centre over a majority of the first half.
Tyonne Howard pulled the Cardinals to within three with a layup right before the end of the first quarter, while a free throw from
Alanna Newsome at the 5:02 mark of the second quarter narrowed the deficit 17-14.
North Central went the entire second quarter without a field goal, before the lone three-pointer of the contest off the hand of Howard snapped a stretch of nearly 12 minutes without a field goal with 8:44 remaining in the third.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Madison Marcum however extended the Colonels lead to double digits 35-22. North Central pulled to within nine points of the lead midway through the third quarter, but Centre quickly extended the lead back to double digits for the remainder of the contest on the following possession.
Howard and
Natali Dimitrova combined for 23 of the 40 North Central points, finishing with 12 and 11, respectively. Dimitrova was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts over the weekend.
Kathleen Wilson paced Centre's offense with a game-high 16 points, while Madison Rice also finished in double figures with 11.
