United Soccer Coaches All-Region Release
Dec. 11, 2018 - Following a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament appearance to finish their 2018 campaign, North Central College men's soccer student-athletes
Alexis Flores and
Gavin Sanchez have been named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Men's Scholar All-North/Central Region Team, released Monday.
Sanchez was named to the third team with a compiled grade point average of 3.30. On the pitch during 2018, he scored three goals, which ranked third on the team, and added five assists, which ranked him tied for first on the Cardinals. This is Sanchez's first selection to the Scholar Region team, adding to his four Academic All-CCIW selections and his All-CCIW second team selection for his performances this season.
Flores received a second-team honor after compiling a 3.45 grade point average. The physics and mechanical engineering major scored a team-lead 11 goals, which also ranked second in the CCIW. Additionally, the junior added five assists, which was tied with Sanchez for the team lead. Flores led the CCIW in total points with 27, averaging 1.80 per game. This award adds to his three Academic All-CCIW awards and his selection to the United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-Central Region award received early this year.
The Cardinals ended their season with a record of 9-8 (4-4 CCIW), playing in the CCIW semifinal game, dropping it 6-2 against North Park University.
