LAS VEGAS, NEV. (Dec. 17, 2018) - Competing against the toughest competition they've seen all season, the no. 12-ranked North Central College men's wrestling team dropped two of three match-ups while at the Wartburg Desert Duals on Monday.

The Cardinals faced off against Concordia University (Wis.) to start their day. They completed a shutout victory, taking down the Falcons by a score of 45-0. After
Ian Mullen and
Jaime Suarez both took forfeit wins,
Marc Fleenor won his match at 141 by and 8-0 major decision. The lead was then pushed to 26-0 with two North Central technical falls by
Anthony Rink and
Ben Williamson by scores of 17-1 and 15-0 respectively.
Danny Harris then scored an 11-2 major decision at 165 before
James Ford recorded the only pin of the duel at 174. The Cardinals then got three straight wins by decision by
Cody Baldridge at 184 (10-3),
Jason Nako at 197 (7-2), and
Cameron Martin at 285 (8-3).

Next up for the Cardinals was no. 11-ranked Coe College.
Moe Mitchell started the Cardinals off right, winning by a 6-4 decision at 125. Coe came right back with a 6-1 decision and a fall at 133 and 141 respectively.
Anthony Rink answered to the call after that at 149, winning a big 8-3 decision to bring the Cardinals closer. Coe widened the gap though, stringing three straight victories together at 157, 165, and 174. Coming back at 184,
Cody Baldridge got the Cardinals back on track with a close 3-2 victory before Coe responded at 197 with a sudden victory. To finish off the match at 285,
Audel Ochoa won by a 7-4 decision over his opponent. Coe finished with the 21-12 victory.

To finish the day for North Central, they took on no. 2-ranked Wartburg College. Wartburg controlled the match throughout, only allowing
Anthony Rink to win his match at 149 for the Cardinal's only points in the 41-3 loss.

North Central also brought a second team to the Duals, taking on University of Nevada-Las Vegas Club Team, Wartburg's second team, and University of Colorado-Mesa's second team. The Cardinals were able to win as a team against UNLV's squad by a 36-15 highlighted by
Marcello Macellaio,
Eric Hominac, and
David Cushing recording falls at 165, 174, and 197 respectively. North Central dropped their second match up against Wartburg 31-18 despite pins from
Alec Wolff and
Isiah Ziegler at 197 and 285.

The final match for the second North Central team came against Colorado-Mesa, which turned out to be a 27-27 tie. Dominick Ambrose was highlighted for the Cardinals, recording an 8-4 decision at 157.

The Cardinals (4-2, 1-0 CCIW) are at home on Dec. 21, hosting a dual against University of Chicago in Merner Fieldhouse. The action is set to begin at 5 pm.
