WAVERLY, Iowa (Dec. 29, 2018) – Opening play at the Wartburg College Holiday Tournament, the North Central College women's basketball team ran into a tough matchup with the 24
th-ranked host Knights, falling 87-57 on Saturday inside Levick Arena.
Wartburg (9-2) scored 18 of the game's first 20 points, opening up a 16-point lead less than four minutes into the contest. The Cardinal (3-9) offense was successful on just one of their first nine attempts from the field and never recovered, while Wartburg led by as many as 23 in the opening quarter.
North Central shot just 23 percent in the opening quarter, while the Knights were a force to be reckoned with shooting a blistering 75 percent from the field on 12-of-16 shooting.
Alanna Newsome finished with 15 points while no other Cardinal scored more than seven.
Haydn Braun led the team with four assists, while
Maya Walls added two blocked shots.
Adrienne Boettger led the Knights with 19 points and seven rebounds, as Wartburg finished the game with a 43 to 24 advantage on the glass. Amanda Brainerd and Bailey Naig also finished in double figures with 10 points apiece.
North Central has a quick turnaround, taking on the loser of the University of St. Thomas and Washington University in St. Louis tomorrow in the finale of the Wartburg Holiday Tournament at 1 p.m. Links to live in-game coverage are available
