Feb. 20, 2018 – Closing the season at home on Tuesday against College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) foe Augustana College, the North Central College women's basketball team found itself on the wrong end of a 86-63 final inside Gregory Arena.
The Cardinals kept the contest close throughout a majority of the first half, but the Vikings (15-10, 8-8 CCIW) broke open a 29-29 tie with a 12-0 run to balloon a 41-29 lead just before halftime.
A
Hannah Vitkus three-pointer cut the Augustana lead to nine right before the intermission, but the Cardinals opened the third quarter 0-for-7 from the field as the Vikings stretched the lead to 18.
North Central finally ended the drought more than four minutes into the third quarter, but it was too little too late at that point, finishing the third quarter 1-for-10 from three-point range.
Augustana led by as many as 27 down the stretch, as Alexis Jones and Justice Edell each scored 14 points to pace the Viking offense, while Izzy Anderson added 11 and Clare Kramer finished with 10.
Mayson Whipple finished with 12 points and six assists to lead the Cardinals, wrapping up her career ranked third in program history with 334 career assists and eighth with 120 made three-point field goals.
Page Desenberg and
Siarra O'Neil also finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while
Michaela Reedy finishes her North Central career ranked 10
th all-time with 113 made three-pointers.
North Central closes the 2017-18 season with a record of 5-20, while posting a 3-13 record in CCIW play.
