Feb. 28, 2018 - After recording hard-fought victories over Aurora University the past three seasons, the North Central College women's lacrosse team encountered far less resistance from the Spartans Wednesday evening, enjoying a strong start and cruising to a 17-6 victory in the 2018 season opener for both teams.

The Cardinals scored the game's first eight goals and were never threatened, improving to a 6-0 record all-time against Aurora, winning their season opener for the fifth straight year.

North Central got on the board just 27 seconds after play began, as Addie Records scored her first collegiate goal. Jessica Deetjen followed with three consecutive goals before Records and Christina Truver connected on free-position shots. Mynk Richardson-Clerk tacked on her first score of the night before Records scored again to push the lead to 8-0 with 17:58 still to play in the first half.

The Spartans broke up the shutout with Marina Kanner's goal with 15:40 on the clock, and narrowed the gap to 10-4 by halftime. North Central put the contest on ice with a run of five straight goals in a 10-minute stretch midway through the second period, getting two goals from Richardson-Clerk, two from Nelle Scranton and another from Truver.

Records finished the evening with five goals, while Deetjen totaled four. Truver turned in a team-high six draw controls, while Richardson-Clerk caused three turnovers and the two shared the team lead in ground balls (4). Camille Seghesio saved nine shots on goal, including three free-position shots.

The Cardinals travel to face DePauw University (Indiana) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time.
