DECATUR, Ill. (Feb. 7, 2018) –
The North Central College women's basketball team's road woes continued on Wednesday, as a late fourth quarter comeback fell just short at Millikin University, 73-70, in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup inside the Griswold Center.

Facing a 44-31 deficit with 5:14 to play in the third quarter, North Central (5-17, 3-10 CCIW) began to chip away at the Millikin lead, as Page Desenberg knocked down a pair of jumpers along with a layup from Maya Walls, cut the Big Blue (6-15, 1-11 CCIW) advantage down to six just before the end of the quarter.

A Devin Curry layup increased the Big Blue lead back to nine to open the fourth quarter scoring, but Walls answered right back with a long ball to trim the lead back down to six.

With just over five minutes remaining in the contest and facing a four-point deficit, Mayson Whipple pulled the Cardinals to within one of the lead after nailing a three-pointer, cutting the Millikin lead 62-61.

Just when it seemed as though the Cardinals were finally going to overtake the lead, the Big Blue answered on each occasion as Curry came up clutch each time, scoring nine of the last 12 Millikin points over the game's final four minutes.

Curry finished with 20 points to pace the Big Blue offense, while Yanni Saddler finished with 16.  Lauren Moses and Emily Schultz each pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, while Curry and Cassie Somers accounted for all eight of Millikin's three-pointers, each hitting four.

Whipple led the Cardinal offense with 20 points on 9-of-19 shooting from the field, while Walls added 18 on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.  Lyndsay Brennan also finished in double figures with 15 points, as the trio accounted for almost 76 percent of the Cardinal offense.

North Central is off until next Wednesday, Feb. 14, traveling to Carthage College with tip-off at 7 p.m. inside Tarble Arena.  Links to live in-game coverage are available HERE.
