PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (Mar. 16, 2018) - The North Central College baseball team absorbed a hard-fought loss for the second time in as many days Friday, as Marietta College outlasted the Cardinals, 4-2, at North Charlotte Regional Park.
The Cardinals took an early 2-0 lead on
John Carmody's two-run double in the top of the first inning, but the Pioneers scored three times on four hits in the bottom half to take the lead for good. North Central attempted to stage a rally in the ninth, getting base hits from
Colin Weilbacher and
Joe Rizzo, before Marietta (8-2) closed the contest out.
Michael Mallon was assigned the loss on the mound for North Central, permitting four runs on nine hits while striking out two and walking two.
Eric Outlaw drew three walks for the Cardinals.
North Central (2-2) returns to the field Saturday, taking on Keystone College (Pennsylvania) at South County Regional Park in Punta Gorda. First pitch is scheduled for noon Eastern time.
