Mar. 7, 2018 - Just three days removed from a hard-fought victory, the North Central College women's lacrosse team entertained no such drama in Wednesday's matchup with Benedictine University, overwhelming the Eagles and registering a 16-2 win at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

The Cardinals (3-0) seized control from the opening draw, scoring the game's first 10 goals and keeping the visitors out of the net for the final 42 minutes of the game as they won the first leg of a three-game homestand.

Jessica Deetjen opened the scoring just 51 seconds after play began, and Madeline McHugh followed just 14 seconds later with the first of her game-high four goals. Mynk Richardson-Clerk, Grace Steiner, Christina Truver and Addie Records followed with goals of their own in quick succession, and North Central owned a 6-0 advantage less than five minutes into the contest.

Benedictine (1-1) was able to notch a pair of goals midway through the first period, but made no further progress.

Records put up three goals, while Nelle Scranton totaled a team-best three assists for the Cardinals. Deetjen secured seven draw controls, Truver collected four ground balls and goalkeeper Abigail Leers saved nine shots on goal.

North Central hosts Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday. Play is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
