March 8, 2018 – The North Central College men's lacrosse team celebrated individual and team success as the Cardinals rebounded from a loss just over a week ago with an impressive 23-1 win against the Northland College Lumberjacks (2-5) on Saturday at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
North Central demonstrated its offensive depth in the opening period as seven players would contribute nine goals to give the Cardinals the early lead.
Jared Weaver led the charge with the first goal of the game less than two minutes from the opening whistle before scoring again at the three minute mark.
Noah Parrill added two goals and an assist in the first fifteen minutes and
Matt Sheinfeld scored his first goal of his college career off an assist from
Jacob Ray.
Weaver would again find the back of the net in the second period off of an assist from
Nick Pardo on the extra-man opportunity with 12:06 remaining in the half before Parrill found an open
Sean Tomonari and set him up for his first collegiate goal. Weaver would later assist
Tanner James at the 4:58 mark to extend North Central's lead 12-0. Less than 30 seconds later,
Justin Babor connected with Sheinfeld for his second goal of the game and the Cardinals took a 14-0 lead going into halftime.
The Cardinals kept the Lumberjacks scoreless for the first 45 minutes of play until Kenny Gudmonson snuck one past
Jack Williams to put the visitors on the board with one second remaining in the third period. Trailing 19-1, Northland could not make up the deficit as the Cardinals would score four more goals in the final period to take the game, 23-1.
Parrill led the team with four goals, followed by James, Sheinfeld, Weaver, and
Gavin Foote with three apiece. Weaver had a team-high seven assists and led the team with ten points. Ray had quite the game as he won a new single-game high 22 faceoffs, posted a team-high eight ground balls, led the defense with three caused turnovers, and scored his first collegiate goal as well.
North Central (3-1) travels to Milwaukee, Wis. to play Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) on Saturday, March 10. Game time is set for 1 p.m. and a link to live in-game coverage can be found
