Game two Box Score
April 22, 2018- The North Central College softball team was overpowered by No. 18 Illinois Wesleyan University, falling 8-1 in game one and 9-3 in game two at Shanower Family Field on Sunday.
Closing a four-game homestand, the Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead over the nationally ranked Titans off a double to center field by Taylor Clugston.
North Central would then face an onslaught of hitting by the Titans falling behind 3-1 in the top of the second.
Though offensively the Cardinals were unable to connect, defensively North Central was able to stay in the game up until the top of the fifth, and Illinois Wesleyan recorded five more runs, extending the lead 8-1.
After a tough game one loss, the Cardinals recorded two runs in the first off a singled bunt by Jenna Trojniar, which brought in Emily Miller, followed by a grounded out by Reagan Raymer that allowed Trojniar to score.
That 2-0 lead was quickly tied after a pair of solo homeruns by the Titans in the bottom of the first.
Despite being down 6-3 in the top of the fifth North Central continued to battle at the plate, but the Titans pitching proved to be too much for the Cardinals.
No. 22 North Central (23-5, 7-3 CCIW) travel to Waukesha, Wisconsin to face Carroll University in a College Conference of Illinois doubleheader. Game time is set for 3 PM. For live stats click HERE.
