RIVER FOREST, Ill. (May 6, 2018) – Finishing up the regular season schedule at 10
th-ranked Concordia University Chicago on Sunday, the North Central College baseball team struggled to contain a potent Cougar lineup, falling 13-1 at the CUC Baseball Field.
Concordia Chicago (29-10) scored early and often, plating two runs on four hits in the bottom of the first, while exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the second on four more hits and three walks, while taking advantage of a Cardinal fielding error to take a 9-0 lead after two innings.
The Cougars plated another in the bottom of the third to take a 10-0 lead, before the Cardinals got on the board in the top of the fourth on a
Jeremy Quade RBI-single to right field.
One run was all the Cardinal offense would muster on the afternoon, while the Cougars plated two more in the bottom of the fourth and another in the fifth en route to the 13-1 final.
Colin Weilbacher was the lone Cardinal to finish with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 from the plate, while
Matt Sutherland was 1-for-1 with a walk and run scored.
Michael Mallon falls to 1-3 on the season, allowing eight runs, six earned, on six hits and four walks over 1 1/3 innings.
North Central (25-12) will host the CCIW Tournament, beginning on Thursday, May 10, as the Cardinals will face the fourth-seed in either Elmhurst College or North Park University, at 12 p.m. at Zimmerman Stadium, depending on the outcome of North Park's game this afternoon.
