CCIW Press Release
Sept. 17, 2018 - The North Central College football team claims two of the three College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week Awards this week, as Monday's announcement saw junior quarterback Broc Rutter recognized as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight time and freshman kicker Derik Judka presented with the CCIW's Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
Both players were selected on the strength of their efforts in the Cardinals' 32-19 victory over Washington University in St. Louis at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Saturday. Rutter, now a five-time CCIW Player of the Week, completed 35 passes to break a single-game school record (the previous record of 33 was set by NCC Athletic Hall of Famer Luther Selbo '68 against Illinois Wesleyan University in 1967) and threw for three touchdowns in a career-high 379-yard effort which ranks sixth in North Central's history.
Judka, meanwhile, received the first individual award of his young collegiate career after successfully converting his first two field-goal attempts of the season. His first field goal, in the first quarter, came from 49 yards away to match the sixth-longest made field goal by any Cardinal player.
Currently ranked fifth nationally by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and D3football.com, North Central (2-0, 1-0 CCIW) heads to Chicago on Saturday for a CCIW clash with North Park University. Kickoff at the Holmgren Athletic Complex is set for 1:00 p.m.
