LISLE, Ill. (Sept. 17, 2018) - Seeking their third-straight win before they start conference play, the North Central College men's soccer team leaned on their offensive attack to beat Benedictine University 3-2.
The back-and-forth game started well for the Cardinals, with junior
Alexis Flores scoring in the 15
th minute, his fourth goal in the last three games. His goal came off an assist by
Gavin Sanchez and
Jack Bullard, their second and first assist on the season, respectively.
Benedictine (3-4) did not waste time evening the score, with Erik Stammer striking back four minutes later, with the score staying tied going into the half.
After the half,
Steven Abalos took a pass from
Ryan Powers and scored, ending the game's 44-minute scoring drought. With the Cardinals up 2-1, Santiago Beltran drew a foul in the box for a Benedictine free kick. He converted the free kick to even the score once again.
Senior
Joe Trocki put the Cardinals back in the lead for good shortly after, scoring less than two minutes later. It was Trocki's fourth goal on the season, tying Flores for the team lead.
The Cardinals improved to 4-2 on the season as they head into College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play. They play on Saturday against Millikin University at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, game time is set for 5:00 pm. Click
