Sept. 19, 2018 – Opening up the home portion of the schedule and College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play on Wednesday night, the North Central College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat to North Park University inside Merner Fieldhouse.
North Central (1-10, 0-1 CCIW) struggled early in the opening set, forced to take a timeout trailing 8-3 and never recovered. The Vikings opened up a 16-10 advantage to force the second North Central timeout, but the Cardinal rallied to pull to within three, scoring four of the next five points including a kill from
Sarah Geosling, while teaming up with
Kaitlyn Boelter-Eberhardt on a block to narrow the score 17-14.
Three points proved to be as close as the Cardinals would come to overtaking the Viking lead as four-straight North Park points closed out the opening set 25-17.
The Viking offense took off with the momentum of the first set win to hit a staggering .467 in the second set, recording 15 kills to just one error on 30 total attempts. The Cardinals turned in their best offensive performance in set number two as well, recording 11 kills to just two errors, but simply could not slow down the Viking attack.
The offensive attack then hit a road block in the third set, as North Central hit a match-low .029, while the Vikings turned in a .310 percentage, adding 13 more kills to their match total. North Park out-killed North Central by a 40-27 margin, finishing the match hitting .305 as a team.
Boelter-Eberhardt led all players with a match-high 12 kills, while
Anna Billman added seven and
Kiarah Horn dished out 22 assists.
Lauren Wiltsie paced the Viking attack with 11 kills, while Niki Ahlstrand added nine while committing just one error to hit .444 on the match. Kelly Clinton also added nine kills, while Kajsa Meyer led all players with 32 assists.
