Jan. 9, 2019 –
Haunted by a single-digit third quarter, the North Central College women's basketball team dropped their sixth-straight contest on Wednesday, falling 67-57 at the hands of Carthage College inside Gregory Arena.

The Cardinals (3-13, 1-6 CCIW) hung with the Lady Reds (10-5, 4-2 CCIW) over the first 22+ minutes of the game, scoring the first four points of the third quarter to trim a seven-point halftime deficit to just three after consecutive layups from Natali Dimitrova with 8:12 remaining in the quarter.

Trailing 43-37 at the 4:47 mark of the third, Carthage closed the quarter on a 10-2 run, proving to be the pivotal run of the contest to open up a 53-39 lead heading to the fourth, while the Cardinals were held to zero field goals over the final four minutes.

Carthage led by as many as 18 down the stretch, never surrendering the lead the entire contest, while the Cardinal offense struggled to shoot just over 30 percent.

A season-high 14 points from Haydn Braun led the offense, while Alanna Newsome added nine points and Dimitrova finished with seven.  Maya Walls snagged a team-high seven rebounds, while Tyonne Howard dished out four assists.

Madie Kaelber led all scorers with 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, while Bailey Gilbert added a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double.  Maggie Berigan also finished in double figures for the Lady Reds scoring 11 points off the bench.

North Central is off this weekend but will hit the road next Wednesday, Jan. 16, traveling to 18th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University with tip-off at the Shirk Center scheduled for 7 p.m.  Links to live in-game coverage are available HERE.
